As the end of the year approaches, people in their last year of school get notebooks and get them filled by their friends as a way of remembering them after school. So many people this year gave me their notebooks to decorate and make special. Here are a few I’ve done.

The last book was inspired by a layout I saw on twopeas where envelopes were layered and little journalling cards were slipped into the pockets created.

Mini Album: Book of Notes

This is a mini album I made recently for a friend of mine. I followed this tutorial for the layout and format of the book. It was a lot of fun to make actually! But it’s a bit confusing with all its flaps!

I’m Published?

So I’ve been sitting on this news for quite a while. I’m officially a writer now! A short story I wrote was published in an anthology by Oxford University Press. It’s called ‘I’ll Find My Way’ and my story is called ‘Step Into My Ruby Shoes’. I received the email telling me this ages ago, but didn’t want to share until I actually SAW my book in print, which I did, yesterday.

The book was launched at the Karachi Literature Festival yesterday. And we went and bought fourteen copies! 😉 Gotta give one to all those people I love. The bad thing? They didn’t even give ME a free copy. :/ Well, anyway.

Craftgardenshop – February Challenge

For the first challenge during my term, I was asked to create a project using a colour board from design seeds. This is what I came up with for my project:

This is a folder I made out of mostly handmade or ‘lying-around-the-house’ supplies. The silver paper is a wrapping paper left over, the tag is handmade with a sheet on vellum on top to make the neon pink swirls a little subtle and the clouds and hot air balloon are also hand drawn and painted.

Hope this inspires you to create a beautiful project with the colour scheme for this month! Don’t forget to link up to the craftgarden blog!

Story of Us – Notebook

A friend of mine asked me to decorate a notebook cover for her. She had bought it to be filled in by all her friends at the end of the school term as a way of remembering them. The cover was originally divided into three portions – blue on top, pink in the middle and an ugly olive green on the bottom. You can still see the edges of these colours on the spine part because I couldn’t cover the very edges!

At first I decided to keep those colours and work around them and simply cover the parts where stuff was written. But then I realized I really hated that olive green and that nothing in my stash complimented it either. So I gave the cover a complete makeover. I kept it simple because I don’t want things falling off when she passes it around to her friends!

I’ve mostly used Amy Tangerine’s Yes Please and Dear Lizzy’s Lucky Charm collections. Those two are my absolute favorites and go really well together.two

LOVE this hot pink pen and the way it shows up on brown card stock.

Hope you liked this!

Mini Book – Thankful for You

Today I would like to share a mini book I recently made for a friend I wanted to give her something to tell her how thankful I was for her, and I decided it would be the best depicted in a mini book! Plus I love making them, so, you know.. I had so much fun doing this and really made a dent in my stash, which means that I have broken through the barrier of ‘Oh, it’s  so pretty, I can’t use it yet!’ So, without further ado, lets have Thankful for You, the mini book.

I started off with a 4 x 12-ish inch piece of Amy Tangerine’s Commit paper. I folded it in half to create the cover and added a brad to the bottom right corner. I had originally planned on that being part of the tie mechanism but then I had to change things and I couldn’t take the brad away because that would leave an unsightly hole and I couldn’t shorten the book length and hide the hole because the other bits inside the book that I had planned on using wouldn’t fit then.

On the top I layered the b-side of some more Amy Tan paper – that grey one, which I absolutely adore!! Have you SEEN the airmail tear strip!? SO CUTE. I also added some Dear Lizzy flair and a heart strip from October Afternoon Travel Girl Passport paper. The book ties shut with some pink ombre string. For the title I used my typewriter.

Inside the book, I wanted to give a dreamy look so I used a sheet of vellum (the thicker one, that you use for parchment work and paper piercing and embossing and stuff) and folded that in half to make two pages. The other two pages are made from normal water colour paper. On the first page I cut a banner from some brown card stock and wrote on it with my neon pink pen. Then I added a heart and a button and stapled some strips of paper to the top.

I kept the next page simple by just cutting out a tab note shape and writing on that. You can see those neon pink hearts again! I love this pen.

For this page, I made some tags from patterned paper. I glued the last one to the page and tied the others to it using pink string. The camera came from a doll’s set and I had always liked it so I saved it up for some crafty use for the future – and now here it is! The top tag is actually a tag from my clothes and that’s why it says ‘collection’ so I simply covered up the name of the collection with some music paper from Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm and added my own title using my typewriter.

Some Simple Stories stickers …

and some Amy Tan Remarks …

I created a pocket out of vellum and some patterned paper and slipped in a journalling card. On top I added some Amy Tan and Simple Stories stickers.

Again a bit of layering…

I covered the entire page with my favourite Dear Lizzy paper and an Amy Tan sticker and paper strips completed the page.

On the last page is another Amy Tan sticker and some typewritten sentiment. I added a handmade envelope to the inside back cover and slipped a letter inside!

Well, there you are. A little mini book about being thankful for the little things. I hope you found some inspiration in this project, and it inspired you to make your own mini books and albums because they’re the best-est thing on earth! 🙂

Love and hugs,

Busy, Busy, Busy but Great News Too!!

I’m so sorry about not posting! I’ve been super busy. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the camera wasn’t working and then on Thursday, my computer kinda died and I have no idea how to blog from the tab. Yesterday I wasn’t home the entire day. Ugh, so much activity.

Anyway, here are the pictures I promised and then, after that, some great news! (squee)

And now for the good news….

I was selected for my first ever design team by the lovely Kerry for thecraftgarden! I’m so so excited!! The first challenge goes up on first February so don’t forget to stop by and participate!
